The wife and I showed up with our red books and bibles at the new brother's house ready for the study, but nobody was there
Maybe they were raptured. Sorry wrong religion.
i feel just awful~!.
the wife and i showed up with our red books and bibles at the new brother's house ready for the study, but nobody was there.. anyone else ever have this happen?.
i understand that the group is huge, us, the new guys, the conductor (a bethel reject), and three generations of dubs who live in the same house, but are three family groups too much to keep track of?

does anyone know if the awake magazine has ever mentioned retirement plans such as 401k's or ira's?
they are always trying to give what they consider to be practical information but i would imagine that this would be a subject they would have to avoid.
telling witnesses how to save for retirement would be admitting defeat.
Thank you for the info JWdaughter. I was in the Watchtower at that time but I guess I was too dense to notice the article. I find the timing of the article interesting. Wasn’t it the WT belief that the end of 6000 years since the creation of man was to be around October of 1975? 1975 was the date everyone was looking forward to. Witnesses were selling their home and taking menial jobs because there was much time before the system of things would end. Now one month before the end of that year they write an article on retirement. I find that interesting. It may have been the Watchtower's way of subtly saying oops!

i was just doing my page on myspace and this question really stuck with me.
i dont know if something is wrong with me or what, but if i have to answer this question truthfully i have to say i dont have one.
i like to learn about many different people and their achievements but in reality i just like being myself and not try to emulate someone else.
David Brent
i dont know how long it will last, a month, a year, forever?!?!
last few months have been real roller-coaster for me, many things have changed dramatically.
ive sold the house and small part of that money i really want now to invest into my own journeys.
Either way, I just can’t be bothered to think about WTBS, not anymore. For some time I’ve been over this and just can’t think about cult any more.
That is a good sign. Nothing wrong with that.
Besides, I don’t think or feel like I’ve got anything worthwhile to offer or contribute to this board or anyone on it at this present time.
I disagree with this statement but I do agree it it good to get away from thinking about the Watchtower even on this level.
Take care.
i spent the weekend with some relatives.
they have an fairly extensive library of jw material going back 50 years in their spare bedroom.
i was looking at a few items when i found a program for the divine victory convention held in winnipeg, manitoba in 1973. the convention lasted 5 days.
I remember the name and that is about all I remember about it. If it was held in LA it was the one where I was baptized. If it was held in San Diego I had completed my first year in the cult. Fortunated I've blank most of those days out.
she will probably kill me for posting these photos, but i can't resist.. last thursday, our rachel (princess here) and one of her friends decided to dive into a local lake and do a polar bear swim, despite the fact that the temperature was in the teens and there was fresh snow from the night before.. here are a few photos.
you can see the snow on the ground and notice everyone else is bundled up.. .
this is before she dove in.
That looks like fun. I think. Maybe not. Any idea what the water temp. was? The coldest I have been in was around 46 and it gave me an ice cream headache every time my head got dunked.
the last congregation we were at, decided to invite a neighbouring congregation to their territory to help them with the field service.. the elders asked my husband, if we would host the bbq for the brothers and sisters after the ministry, as we have a large garden.
we were told not to worry about the amounts of food, as everyone from the other congregation would bring something.
not even a bag of crisps arrived.
It was the smell and the eating of meat, that made this brother retaliate the way he did. He could have just left, but he chose to stay, and then write this letter when he arrived home
Why would the idiot show up at a BBQ if he really can't stand being around meat? I would send a letter to him,his congregation and my own. In it I would state that I am the one who has been stubbled and will never be able to attend another meeting because of his actions. I would also tell them that since receiving his letter I can't even drive by a KH without the smell of burning flesh and BBQ sauce filling my mind. Why not make the best out of a rude situation?
remember that awake march 22, 1993 on page 4.......in the left side of the page.
they mentioned that in the eagerness...suggesting dates....they did'nt presume to originate predictions 'in the name of jehovah.. notice: they did'nt say " these are the words of jehovah".
its that they decided all by themselves.. .
The Watchtower wants it both ways. They want the authority of a Biblical prophet but not the responsiblily of one. They want to tell you what to do and threaten to have God kill you if you don't listen to them but they skip over the part where they get rocks bounced off their heads for getting something wrong.
a thread on the last page made me remember something from my early childhood.
remember congregation picnics and other outings?
i remember when i was little, probably only 4 - 5 years old; there was a huge congregation picnic at a park with food, games, etc.
I left before they did away with the picnics and get togethers and didn't know they had done that. It is probably a good thing that they did because it was a good recuiting tool. I don't think anyone ever became dub just because they went to a informal gathering but I think in some case it was the thing that gave them the final shove into signing up. It amazes me how the Watchower wants to get involve and control everything the witnesses do. I kind of gives you a glimpse into the party atmosphere that will permeate the new order after the big A.
